RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assume responsibility for the entire program which includes: coaching the varsity squad and supervising assistant coaches 9-12
- Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches
- Works with Activities Director
- formulation of game schedules
- selection of contest officials
- arrangements for out-of-town trips
- arrangements for physical examinations
- preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
- preparation of budgets, equipment, and supply requisitions
- solicitation of athletic insurance
- scouting arrangements
- planning of new facilities and/or modification of existing facilities
- organization of middle school clinics as directed by Athletic Advisory Council and assist middle school coaches in their related programs
- direction of the Monogram Club with other coaches
- Works with activities director to correlate the practice schedules of the ninth, sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity squads
- Supervises dressing rooms and playing area during and following periods of team participation
- Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games
- Cares for athletes and injured athletes
- Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories
- Prepares award lists and collects athletic fees
- Works closely with newspapers, radio, and television personnel to encourage favorable public interest in the program specifically and the athletic program generally
- Attends community meetings and accepts any other speaking engagements possible
- Attends all conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved.Operates within the policies of the Metro Conference and SDHSAA
- Keeps informed on current trends in your sport and attends and participates in clinics in your sport
- Maintains active membership in related professional organization
- Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contest
- Maintains a staff relationship with other coaches
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Coordinator of Athletics
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Education (preferred)
- Coaching courses: Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid and Concussion in Sports
- High School head coaching experience desired
- Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit
- The ability to travel between locations
