Position includes overall supervision of the Academic Services program, personnel and students assigned to the Study Center or Study Center classes; coordination with principal and counselor in transitioning students and determining class placements; designing accommodations and modifications for students with special learning needs that will aid a successful learning experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with SFPS for students needing and/or utilizing their services
- Supervise education assistants and volunteers, and work with them to assist in meeting the needs of all study center students
- Work with Academic Service Co-Coordinator in classes and work cooperatively to ensure appropriate class placements
- Provide strategies for regular classroom teachers to assist them in differentiating teaching methods and curriculum to better meet student needs
- Overall supervision of all students utilizing the Study Center for organization, study skills, tutorial help and/or alternative testing needs
- Coordinate Student Assistance Team meetings and follow-up communication with those involved
- Monitor all student accommodation plans, ensuring at least a yearly review
- Maintain regular communication with teachers and parents
- Work cooperatively with elementary and high school teachers to provide a positive transition into and out of the junior high school setting
- Work with principal and counselor to determine appropriate placement and scheduling of students in classes and Study Center
- Teach classes as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- South Dakota teacher certification (Special Education preferred)
- Special education experience
- Commitment to SFCS mission
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Teaching experience beneficial
- Good communication skills
