Serve as a coordinator of inclusive education practices for students

(PreK-6) with special needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implement SFCS referral process when student is referred
• Complete file search and communicate with teacher/principal as appropriate
• Do classroom observation
• Initiate parent contact, set meeting, and attend these preliminary staff & parent meetings.
• Recommend educational testing, referral to Sioux Falls Public Schools, classroom accommodations, curriculum modifications, and/or parent conference when warranted
• Coordinate referral with Sioux Falls Public Schools special education staff & administration
• Attend Sioux Falls Public Schools Student Service Plan meetings
• Oversee plan for transportation of student for testing and any subsequent services
• Help with follow-up in classrooms after testing has been completed

• Write up a SFCS Accommodation Plan as needed for the student and discuss plan with parents and classroom teacher
• Work with individual students and/or small groups of students on specific academic need areas, organizational skills, and/or study habits
• Assist teachers in differentiating curriculum
• Gather materials from various sources for educational assistant, home, and classroom use

• Coordinate schedule of academic services educational assistants to maximize their time for student benefit
• Be available at all-school parent conferences
• Record and file reports, observations, tutor plans, etc. in student’s cum and/or academic services files
• Communicate regularly with counselor, principal, teachers, educational assistants, and parents
• Attend SFCS Academic Services team meetings
• Comply with guidelines in the SFCS Academic Services Manual
• Various duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

• B. A. in education/special education
• Special Education experience preferred
• Commitment to SFCS mission
