Serve as a coordinator of inclusive education practices for students
(PreK-6) with special needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement SFCS referral process when student is referred
- Complete file search and communicate with teacher/principal as appropriate
- Do classroom observation
- Initiate parent contact, set meeting, and attend these preliminary staff & parent meetings.
- Recommend educational testing, referral to Sioux Falls Public Schools, classroom accommodations, curriculum modifications, and/or parent conference when warranted
- Coordinate referral with Sioux Falls Public Schools special education staff & administration
- Attend Sioux Falls Public Schools Student Service Plan meetings
- Oversee plan for transportation of student for testing and any subsequent services
- Help with follow-up in classrooms after testing has been completed
- Write up a SFCS Accommodation Plan as needed for the student and discuss plan with parents and classroom teacher
- Work with individual students and/or small groups of students on specific academic need areas, organizational skills, and/or study habits
- Assist teachers in differentiating curriculum
- Gather materials from various sources for educational assistant, home, and classroom use
- Coordinate schedule of academic services educational assistants to maximize their time for student benefit
- Be available at all-school parent conferences
- Record and file reports, observations, tutor plans, etc. in student’s cum and/or academic services files
- Communicate regularly with counselor, principal, teachers, educational assistants, and parents
- Attend SFCS Academic Services team meetings
- Comply with guidelines in the SFCS Academic Services Manual
- Various duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- B. A. in education/special education
- Special Education experience preferred
- Commitment to SFCS mission
