RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the mission of Bishop OGorman Catholic Schools
  • Conduct and supervise dance tryouts and training
  • Organize and lead successful practice sessions
  • Submit requisitions for ordering supplies and equipment
  • Supervise conduct of dancers at all practices and events
  • Encourage students’ success by maintaining contact with teachers, counselors, parents, and dancer to ensure academic progress on a regular basis
  • Encourage the continual enforcement of the Code of Conduct
  • Select uniforms and dances which are appropriate for an education setting
  • Responsible for Dance budget and fiscal implementation, in conjunction with the Athletic Director and Bishop OGorman Catholic Schools policies and procedures
  • Motivate students to reach their maximum potential
  • Teach and practice good sportsmanship towards opponents, officials, judges, team members, coaches, and spectators
  • Maintain inventory of all equipment, costumes, and supplies
  • Maintain professional growth through attendance of clinics and conferences
  • Communicate with other coaches, parents, teachers, administration etc. effectively
  • Perform various duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Past experience in dance, performance, directing, coaching
  • Attend yearly SDHSAA rules meeting
  • Take and pass open book test after rules meeting
  • AACAA safety certification
  • Spirit program management
  • Complete Bronze level of NFHS Spirit coaches’ education program
  • Complete: Fundamentals of Coaching and First Aid for Coaches through SDHSAA
  • Concussion in sports and heat illness prevention
  • Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church
  • Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position
  • Exhibit the core values of Bishop OGorman Catholic Schools: Faith, Unity, Excellence, and Integrity
